Yolde Energies Ltd, in partnership with Process Ecology, an engineering consulting firm, developed an advanced Production Facilities Surveillance System based on HYSYS for the client, enabling them to closely monitor equipment performance, enhance production rates, and meet contract deliverability requirements. This system empowers operators with real-time insights, calculations, and production estimations based on system conditions, facilitating informed decision-making.
In a specific case study involving the client’s Oooguruk production facilities, the dynamic model was configured to simulate the operations of 15 wells, each operating in free-flowing, ESP (Electric Submersible Pump), or shut-in modes, handling three-phase flow (comprising oil, water, and gas) through sub-sea transportation pipelines. The model accounted for various factors, including compositional HYSYS oil characterization, distinct oil characteristics for each well, and ESP operations modeled using a multistage pump with manufacturer pump curve data.
To ensure accuracy, the HYSYS dynamic model underwent calibration and verification against field data. It was seamlessly integrated with an online, real-time application capable of importing field data into the model and recording a range of production parameters calculated by HYSYS. These parameters encompassed individual well production of oil, water, and gas, as well as temperature and pressure profiles, among others.
The HYSYS-based Production Facilities Surveillance System offers numerous advantages. It facilitates real-time determination of well flow rates, identifies anomalies in well behavior compared to the model, and allows for conducting what-if scenarios concerning pipeline flow regimes and proration/shut-ins. Additionally, the system aids on-shore operators in anticipating potential changes resulting from offshore events.
